MORE ABOUT ME
My Training

It is my firm belief that the relationship I develop with my clients sits at the heart of the healing process, and that my role as a therapist is not to advise or to ‘problem-solve’ but to relate, understand and support. I will not assume to be an expert on you or your life – how could I be? Instead, I hope to help you to tap into your own wisdom to allow you to find your own way forward through whatever is troubling you.
Because my approach is based on this belief that you are the expert on your own life, from a theoretical perspective it is built on the ‘Person Centred’ approach to therapy developed by Carl Rogers. But, I am an integrative counsellor so this means that my approach is varied and tailored to you, so I am also influenced by a wide range of approaches and theories (including, for example, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis), and I also draw inspiration from all sorts of places and people. I enjoy bringing creativity into counselling sessions, which can mean working with art, writing or music. I love reading and writing poetry and if that interests you at all I'd love to bring that into our work together.
I am passionate about working safely with trauma, and the importance of recognising the impact that trauma has on every aspect of life. For this reason I have trained to practice the Rewind Technique for working with traumas and phobias.

Training

I graduated from Iron Mill College in Exeter with a Professional Diploma in Integrative Counselling. This course is BACP accredited, which means my qualifications have been verified, I am held accountable for my work, and I abide by a professional code of ethics. My foundation certificate was completed at Bath Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Experience

I spent two years as counsellor at the Swan Project in Bristol, which is a service particularly focussed on helping clients work on their relationship with alcohol.
I have also worked for two years as a counsellor at Maybe Southwest Charity which offers low cost counselling to individuals.

Outside of counselling, I've also had a long career as an Editor in academic publishing and have a Masters Degree in International Development, and a BA in English Literature.
